Clymer Earns Top Ak-Sar-Ben Honors as Youth Ambassador
Congratulations to Kyle Clymer
, son of Kent
and Gina Clymer, a senior at David City High School and 2006 Butler County LeadershipPlenty graduate. He was in competition with
hundreds of other 4-He'rs from Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, Wyoming, South
Dakota, Iowa and Kansas at the Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Exposition in Omaha this
past weekend.
Kyle exhibited sheep at
the Livestock Expo winning blue and purple ribbons on his lambs, but if you
talk to Kyle he will also tell you that he was very busy this weekend as a
competitor in the Sheep Premeir Exhibitor competition and was finalist as
Nebraska Ak-Sar-Ben Ambassador, an award which only one person in Nebraska has
the honor of achieving. See large photo: http://www.frnmedia.net/aksarben/print_display.asp?ID=485
But wait......not only
did Kyle compete for these awards, he actually was the winner of the Premeir
Sheep Exhibitor award and not only that, on Sunday evening of the Ak-Sar-Ben
Livestock Auction, Mr. Clymer was announced as the 2006-07 AkSarBen Ambassador and
having the most creative portfolio award.
Could you have any better weekend than that?
An explanation of the
Premier Exhibitor Award says that its purpose is to provide an opportunity for
4-H exhibitors to demonstrate their
project produciton and management knowledge, strengthen decision making and
communication, and recognize excellence in the demonstration of project
knowledge.
The Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Youth
Ambassador's terms are for one year. They will assist at the livestock show,
help with school tours, appear in the
River
City
roundup Parade and attend the Purple Ribbon Auction in 2007.
Following the Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Youth Exposition they will serve as role models
and share information about 4-H and Ak-Sar-Ben through speaking engagements and
media interviews. Each Ambassador will receive a $1,000 scholarship at the end
of their one year term.
Butler Successes
Butler County LeadershipPlenty classes I and II are demonstrating the value of a leadership/capacity building program in a community. Within two years, members of these classes have taken on projects and responsibilities that have caused other communities, states and organizations to take notice of the David City Area.- At least three members of the first LeadershipPlenty class have began to share a vision about the need for all local government entitities to be on the same page and are communicating that vision to others through the development of an Interlocal agreement between county, city and chamber of commerce.
- As a result of a community goal of marketing Butler County, a new web portal was developed in 2005 that has linked most of the communities of Butler county together with potential tourism sites in their communities and has also provided an outreach to travelers to help them find out what is so special about Butler County via a calendar, a welcome packet for new residents, a youth produced DVD and many other tools that bring out the assets that exist in Butler county.
- The 2006 class had as one of its projects to assist the David City Area Chamber of Commerce in conducting a survey with one on one visits. A large number of chamber members were visited and the results will be shared at a September, 2006 David City Area Chamber Luncheon.
- LeadershipPlenty has been an integral part of the Home Town Competitiveness (HTC) program that began shortly after the first class of LeadershiPlenty began. Through a developing coordinating effort, the leadershipPlenty Program is helping train new leaders that can focus on the visions of the county and provide leadership in communicating new change to the residents.
